Tableau’s Cloud Engineering team builds features, functionality, and products that are cloud first. We’re launching an initiative to build a product that allows our customers to share their data and insights with millions of people in real time from the Cloud... (Tableau Online). Our mission is to help our customers deliver instant insights to the public while creating a secure, automatically scalable, highly performant and governed way to embed a Tableau-powered visualization in their web page to share with the world. Tableau Online make it easy for people from IT to business users to easily create visualizations and share their insights
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who is passionate about advancing the state-of-the-art in the public cloud insights sharing space and in helping deliver on our company’s mission to help people see and understand their data.
As a Principal technical leader on the team, some of the things you'll be doing include…
• Oversee and drive the end-to-end architecture of the product
• Determine overall architectural principles, frameworks, and standards
• Design solutions that are enterprise scalable and maintainable
• Drive strategic technology initiatives, working with Product Managers, other Architects,, Engineers,, SME's and the broader Tableau/Salesforce organization
• Work in a consultative fashion to improve communication, collaboration and alignment amongst teams inside and outside of the organization.
• Analyze and provide feedback on product strategy
• Provide input into long-range product requirements, best practices, and operational guidelines, with focus on continuous improvement of platform reliability and serviceability
• Drive research, case studies, and prototypes on leading edge technologies and how they can be leveraged
• Ensure that we are continuously raising our standard of engineering excellence
Who you are…
Experienced. You have 10+ years of experience designing and architecting distributed systems. You understand cloud architecture and systems. You are confident walking the tech stack from front-end to back-end, diving into and improving the C++ and Java server code when needed.
Leader. You are self-motivated and motivate others. You have a track record of driving complex projects to success by leading designs, make technical trade-offs, and solve hard challenges persistently. You think long term and take calculated risks to lead the team and projects to success.
Highly Technical . You are e xperienced in building scalable distributed systems. Y ou’re fluent in commonly used design patterns and can constructively review the work of others to ensure high quality. You are able to propose and build product improvements that range from simple to deeper architectural changes in order to improve the customer experience.
Strong Communicator . You can distill complex technical information down to the key elements and communicate both design ideas and technical details effectively.
Passionate . You are p assionate about design and architecture while remaining customer focus and adhere to agile principles of incremental delivery of value to customers. You have a passion for solving complex problems and you are always developing and growing your skills as an engineer. You do great work even when no one is watching.
Relentlessly High Standards . You understand what it takes to write software that is used by thousands or millions of people. You love delivering high-quality experiences to the customer that “just work” through software that is robust, scalable and performs well. You thrill in your accomplishments but also know it’s about doing and improving.
