Job Details

Tableau’s Office of the CTO is looking for experienced Data Scientists who are

interested in helping to define our corporate data science strategy, developing

production-grade solutions for internal and external customers, and experimenting with

new techniques for visualizing data... science solutions. As a member of the OCTO Data

Science & Data Engineering team you’ll have opportunities to influence product

direction, guide the development of best practices in data science and engineering,

and become an expert in Tableau’s products and their use in data science.

As an ideal candidate, you have deep experience in working with customers and

stakeholders to outline problem statements, develop solution approaches that meet

customer requirements, and develop the needed solutions. You are well-versed in using

a variety of machine learning techniques to provide actionable insights, and are

enthusiastic about providing technical and scientific leadership to teams of scientists

and engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

·Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to understand their data

and develop data science solutions to increase and optimize customer

experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes

·Contribute to the development of Tableau’s corporate data science strategy,

help test best practices for teams working on analytics and data science

problems

·Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of current and new data sources and data

gathering techniques

·Gain mastery of the Tableau products and help to define robust metrics and

analyses for their improvement

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

·You have a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science,

Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, etc. and have at least three years of

professional experience in a Data Science role. Additionally, you have the following:

·Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on problem and solution definition and delivery

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·At least three years of experience using statistical computer languages (Python

preferred) to manipulate data, develop analytic solutions, and derive actionable

insights

·Broad knowledge of a variety of advanced statistical and machine learning

techniques, their real-world advantages/drawbacks, and experience in their

application

·A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.

Additional preferred skills and background include:

·A PhD in a quantitative discipline plus at least five years of professional

experience in a Data Science role

·Commercial/production software development experience, including experience

with versioning and testing frameworks

·Experience with databases and data warehouses (Postgres, Snowflake)

·Experience in data visualization
